Visit Abu Dhabi

The easiest and most informative way to stay in the know of all that's happening in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Tourism

Overview

The Visit Abu Dhabi mobile app is a comprehensive breakdown of all the attractions and experiences across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Challenge

Everything but the kitchen sink.

Our history working with the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi stretched over a few years handling their "Visit Abu Dhabi" app, as well as many other supporting apps such as "Abu Dhabi Events", "Abu Dhabi Licensing", and a few internal tools for the client.

"Visit Abu Dhabi" was the flagship product that was used by millions of users annually. It offered a ultra rich selection of places to stay, places to eat, attractions to see, events to attend, and many other secondary services. These secondary services included translation tools, prayer times, weather, currency converters, postcards, maps, and much more.

With such a high-volume of users, we kept a close eye on the data and analytics. As expected, the star features like "places to stay", and "attractions to see" did extremely well. On the flip side, we discovered that some of the secondary services were bloating the app, with minimal value to users.

Solution

Build. Measure. Learn. Improve.

Naturally, we wanted to give users maximum value at every turn.

We agreed to discontinue low-value services, and replace them with arising experimental technologies such as AR (Augmented Reality), VR (Virtual Reality), and an integrated ChatBot service. We also introduced convenience features such as the ability to book taxis and car services within the app, as well as Hotel Bookings too.

With the tweaking of the apps features, the overall design evolved to comply with the cleaner UI trends arising at the time. Visual effects that were previously trending were all scrapped for a cleaner, distraction-free design language that allowed the content itself to shine.

Outcomes

Proud recognition and local and international scales.
