Overview
Aldar Digital Twin is a gaming-inspired responsive web app that offers interactive real-time views, and intelligent insights, of every Aldar real estate asset in Abu Dhabi.

Challenge
Spreadsheets meet Gaming Engine.
The client had an overwhelming volume of real estate data spread out on multiple fragmented Excel spreadsheets which were siloed from other departments. The lack of centralization created a lot of inconsistency, redundancy, and duplicate sources of truth not to mention very slow verification processes to unveil reality. The mandate came in to unify this data into a single source of truth, and to do so in a fun, interactive manner built for the future.

Solution
What if doing work felt like playing a game?
Aldar hired JLL for the job knowing they would deliver nothing but sheer class and cutting-edge excellence. My role as Experience Design Lead for this particular project as an external consultant was to lead the design practice for the duration of the project's build.
Here, we met the client on-site at the Aldar HQ and conducted a two day Design Thinking Workshop to understand who the key stakeholders are (who would also be the users of the web app), how data is collated and shared today, what the future state would need to look like, and what data and insights they would need to be able to extract from the solution we will be building.
In this workshop, we enthusiastically concluded on building an interactive real-time 3D representation of the entire landscape of Abu Dhabi in, what is known as, a Digital Twin. Here, authorized users can see a holistic map view of the Emirate, zoom in, pan around, and drill into a particular asset to view relevant data and extract key insights from the view in question.

Execution
This concept represents a new era of design—one where aesthetics and strategy work hand in hand to create something truly extraordinary.
Post Design Thinking Workshop, I coordinated closely with the data science team, business intelligence team, Unreal Engine team, and the Product Owners to decide on what data needs to be shown at what stages, then I got to work wireframing the solution.
Here, it was agreed we would need a prominent 3D map rendition of Abu Dhabi which would be rendered from the Unreal Engine team to give it a hyper-realistic feel. The map's display would change according to time of day (sunrise, daytime, sunset, evening), as well as current weather conditions (sunny, cloudy, rainy, etc).
On either side of the map will be navigational controls with access to predefined sections, as well as access to level-specific data and insights (which would be interactive with a further drill-down view).
Wireframes graduated to high-fidelity UI prototypes to run by internal stakeholders at the client side and obtain their approval. Once approved, development kicked off where I worked closely with dev teams to quality-check output, and support in data visualizations where needed.
